Passengers of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) train are now able to make advance booking within a 30 days window.

The significant adjustment for advance booking from the initial 14 days was announced by Kenya Railways Corporation (KRC) as part of the firm’s New Year message.

We have adjusted the advance ticket booking window from fourteen (14) days to thirty (30) days.

From January 1, 2018, our customers will be able to purchase a ticket 30 days before the date of travel; any period between the thirtieth day and the day of travel; or on the actual day of travel itself.

As 2017 comes to its end, we take this opportunity to wish you a prosperous new year. Happy 2018 and thank you for choosing to travel aboard the #MadarakaExpress train

Since the launch of the passenger service mid, 2017, about half a million travelers have used the train, according to statistics recently released by the firm.

Currently, two inter-country trains leave Mombasa and Nairobi at 7:15 am and 8:00 am respectively traversing six counties through Miasenyi, Voi, Mtito Andei, Kibwezi, Emali, and Athi River termini.

Similarly, two express trains depart the two cities every afternoon; leaving Nairobi at 2:30 pm, the other leaving Mombasa at 3:15 pm.

Passengers travelling between the two cities pay Kenyan Shillings 700 (approximately 7 US Dollars) on economy class and Kenyan Shillings 3,000 (approximately 29 US Dollars) on first class.

The Economy class fare was reduced on May 31st, 2017 after President Uhuru Kenyatta ordered the revision of the fares for economy class tickets from Kenyan Shillings 900 (approximately 9 US Dollars) to Kenyan Shillings 700 (approximately 7 US Dollars).

Would you as a mobility actor opt to plan you travel in a 30 days window? Is this a right behavior to adopt in Africa?
